Hi there. I'm Jay. Thanks for stopping by.
I'm an NYC-based professional with years of experience creating, shaping, and developing projects for major media properties, with a focus on content acquisitions, creative direction, business development, and production for streaming media platforms and educational and children's media organizations.
Currently: I'm working for the audiobook publisher RBmedia as Director of Acquisitions, and specializing in acquiring academic and trade non-fiction titles from university presses. Previously I've worked for companies like Big Bad Boo Studios/Oznoz, Common Sense Media, Sesame Workshop, batteryPOP, Kidjo, NYXT, and Kino Lorber.
Sometimes I create crossword puzzles, and perhaps you've stumbled upon some of them. To date, over 30 of my puzzles have been published in outlets like The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Boston Globe, Newsday, and The Globe and Mail. Playing with words is fun.
My Duolingo streak has been highlighted in outlets like Inc. Magazine, as it is purportedly the 8th longest active Duolingo streak in the world. I study five languages each day and have been doing so for over 4,600 consecutive days now; I have become conversational in French and Spanish and can get by in German, Italian, and Esperanto. Like I said: playing with words is fun. Even when they're not in English.
In October 2024, I appeared as a contestant on The CW's Trivial Pursuit, where I defeated two players and won $5,000. Winning money on national television and being able to call yourself 'a quiz show champion' is fun, and I hope I'll have more such opportunities in the future.
My humor writing has been published in McSweeney's Internet Tendency on two occasions, and I've edited a variety of books pertaining to education, psychology, sports, and literature for the consumer market. I graduated from the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater's improvisational comedy program and completed an extensive training course in Jim Henson-style rod-and-mouth puppetry (because I'm basically a 4-year-old at heart).
I graduated summa cum laude with Honors in Culture and Communication Studies distinction from New York University. My interests include reading, politics, the arts, visiting museums, creating and solving puzzles, learning languages, playing trivia games, discovering new things, drinking copious amounts of tea, and desperately rooting for the New York Mets.
I'm always interested in projects pertaining to educational and children's media, and in any opportunity to create, develop, produce, and distribute media that educates, engages, entertains, and makes the world a little bit better (and maybe a little bit more fun, too!).
If you've got something in the works, I'd love to hear about it. Feel free to reach out!
